YEAR
2024
LOCATION

I made a monogram using calligraphic letterforms. Calligraphy is a cultural artifact that reveals various unique perspectives by using the design and execution of lettering.I was drawn to a specific form of Arabic calligraphy called ‘Rika’, which means ‘a patch or piece of cloth’. Developed in the late 19th century, Rika features rounded letter shapes and has an almost handwriting-like quality while maintaining the elegance and aesthetic qualities of traditional calligraphy.
This monogram draws inspiration from the term ‘Misbah,’ which signifies ‘lamp’ or ‘lantern’. Designed to emulate the fluidity and motion of a flickering flame, the monogram embodies a sense of dynamic energy and illumination.
